Allerton, an old village of Liverpool is situated at the south end of the city and because of it's proximity to affluent residential areas has always had an upmarket shopping area on Allerton Road.

Thirty years ago there was a delicatesson, a bespoke tailors, shoeshop and many other old-fashioned shops.

The opening of a small Tesco started the change and this was accelerated when they built a large store.

As shops closed many were converted to restaurants and the sole Chinese restaurant, now The Eastern Diner, was no longer alone.

As I report on each establishment it will be possible to click on the restaurant sign for tips.

Starting at Smithdown Place, the junction  of Smithdown Road, Penny Lane, Church Road and Allerton Road, it is a mile from The Tavern Company to Kinselas restaurant in
Rose Lane.

If you feel like working your way through all the restaurants and cafes, there are thirty - so happy eating!

Interestingly there is only one public house, The Rose of Mossley, but of course food is served there as well.
