Ba Reeva restaurant and bar is in Liverpool 18 in  an attractive setting  next to a disused Chinese chippy with an adjacent No 80 bus stop in a busy street. Tables and chairs set outside among the puddles and litter give it a genuine urban feel. Somehow it does not look like a continental restaurant, even when they are in a similar setting, could it be something to do with the weather?

Six months after its opening we thought we would give Ba Reeva a try and went on a rainy Saturday lunchtime. We were shown to a non-smoking area, but as the bar section was empty, smoke was not a problem anyway. It was reassuring to see an air-conditioning unit. The menu was extensive with main courses and tapas as well as lunchtime snacks

I ordered lamb kofta burger with Emmental salad and chips and received a beef sandwich with mushrooms. The Beef was unusual as it was sliced, cooked meat rather than the grilled or fried presentation in most restaurants. In its own way it was delicious and well presented with mixed leaves on a tasteful square plate. The Menu description was "Roast rump with mushrooms and onions on Foccacia bread". Price £4.25. Verdict. Tasty but not filling, needs the extra chips for £2.25.

My wife ordered tuna with asparagus and potato salad but had to settle for chicken as there was no tuna. She asked that the potato was omitted and that there was no dressing. The dish that arrived was pink in the middle chicken with hot asparagus stalks, potatoes and sun dried tomatoes, all dripping with oil, a few leaves of lambs lettuce discretely positioned constituted the salad. For £5.75 for chicken and fried vegetables this was not a bargain and my wife could not eat it.

A very unfortunate experience. It is a pity that Ba Reeva let themselves down in so many ways. Getting the order wrong, and not having the produce are too basic to ignore. It would not take much of an effort to remove the litter from outside the shop and what about that motorcycle seemingly always parked on the pavement a la Francais?
