Edwardian A-Z and Directory of Liverpool and Bootle
One of a series of three books with photographs, maps and commentary. Directories of selected streets in 1909 show occupations such as 'cowkeeper', 'saddler' and 'carter'. An excellent series by an author with a prolific output. Apart from the three books on Liverpool he has published 10 volumes about railways, including 'The Dockers Umbrella', the long lost Liverpool Overhead Railway.

Liverpool
by Joseph Sharples
Joseph Sharples is an architectural historian at the University of Liverpool. The book has 332 pages packed with photographs and information about hundreds of buildings. All the contemporary photos are in colour and apart from describing the architectural details, there are plans and historical detail.
Not only is it a reference book but also a good read.
The book is divided into 10 'walks' and is supported by excellent maps. Published in Oct 2004 at £9.99 and printed on good quality paper, it is terrific value, and highly recommended.
